Alternator Repair in Avondale, West Auckland

Every car with an engine has an alternator, and after years and years of use they can have problems or fail to do their job.

The alternator’s job is to charge the battery while the engine is running to keep all the electronics going. The battery on its own wouldn’t last long powering everything.

When an alternator fails, the power from the battery will quickly get drained and the car will stall, not being able to fire up again (or even turn over).

When this happens, the only option is to repair or replace the alternator.

Symptoms of a failing alternator

One thing to keep in mind is that when an alternator fails, they usually fail without much warning. However, there are a couple of things you can watch out for:

Dim lights
Check engine light
Odd behavior from the electronics
Odd noises coming from the engine – the alternator’s bearing could be worn
Engine stalling
Dead battery – a dead battery is usually caused by something unless the battery itself is bad. If the alternator has failed, the battery will quickly die.
